Info: The Daybreak from on High — Encountering Jesus in the Midst of Darkness

“…because of the tender mercy of our God by which the daybreak from on high will visit us to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow…” (Lk 1:78-79)”

Advent is a season of waiting for the Light, but what do we do when life still feels dark? Drawing from the Canticle of Zechariah and his own experiences of suffering, uncertainty, prayer, and grace, Adam Wright invites us to spend a day encountering Jesus in the very places we might be tempted to believe He is absent. Together, we will reflect on the “tender mercy of our God” and the promise that Christ, the Daybreak from on high, comes “to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow.” Through prayer, reflection, and time before the Lord, this Advent Day of Recollection will invite us not simply to ask God to take away the darkness, but to discover what He may be doing within it. Come away for a day and prepare your heart anew for Emmanuel—the God who does not remain distant from our darkness, but enters into it and dwells with us.

The cost for this one-day retreat, which includes continental breakfast, all retreat materials, and lunch and all retreat materials, is $65 per person.

Or, if you would like to spend the night on Friday night (either because you live out of town or just because), you are welcome to do so! Your registration fee of $115 will allow you to arrive as early as 3 pm on Friday, giving you time to exploring our 120 acres of beautiful property with numerous outdoor prayer experiences, our peaceful chapel, a comfortable room, a continental breakfast on Saturday morning, Saturday’s programming, and Saturday lunch. And, though Friday night dinner will not be provided, there are plenty of restaurants within a 10-minute drive. And, wait for it, if you spend the night on Friday night you are welcome (but not obligated) to join us for a free candlelight Stations of the Nativity outdoor prayer experience https://marianistretreat.com/events/nativity-2026/ which will be followed a bonfire, s’mores, hot cocoa, and cookies!. How fun is all of that!

ABOUT ADAM: At his core, Adam Wright is a Roman Catholic striving to answer the universal call to holiness through his vocation as a husband and father of five. After sixteen years in parish pastoral ministry, including service in music, youth, and young adult ministry, Adam now serves as the host of Covenant Network Catholic Radio’s morning show, Roadmap to Heaven. In 2024, Adam was diagnosed with stage four Neuroendocrine Cancer, a journey he has embraced as an opportunity to walk with Christ on the Way of the Cross and witness the beauty of God’s grace amid suffering. Through the spiritual fruit of uniting suffering with Christ and the extraordinary love shown by family, friends, and the Church, Adam has seen God at work in profound ways. Passionate about the redemptive power of suffering and the universal call to holiness, Adam shares his story in hopes of helping others encounter God’s transforming love and grace as they pursue sainthood in the ordinary—and sometimes extraordinarily difficult—moments of life.
